The Intel Toy Initiative
Intel is working with key toy manufacturers to make next-generation PC interactive toys smarter and more fun. Toys will be equipped with enhanced capabilities to enrich the enjoyment and learning experience for children.
This work, being driven by Intel's Developer's Relations Group and Intel Architecture Labs (IAL), will focus on adopting communication protocols and interfaces to the home PC by providing scalable "intelligence" for next-generation PC toys. This will allow toys in the near future to be able to interact with the PC from anywhere in the home. The connection of home devices is a primary focus of IAL's Anywhere in the Home Initiative, whose charter it is to give the PC the ability to add value throughout the home, throughout the day.
Intel is currently working to enable communications anywhere in the home by working with industry leaders to develop open specifications for wireless protocols which will soon make this a reality.
PC Toy Connectivity:
- Makes toys more intelligent
- Enables new interactive content possibilities
- Provides storage and memory (remembering kids names, preferences progress, huge storage for content)
- Allows new and improved forms of user interfaces
- Speech and speaker recognition
- Face and gesture recognition using low cost cameras
In addition, when the PC is connected to the Internet, new play models emerge, allowing children to play with peers and family both across town and around the world. Internet connectivity also allows the toy manufacturers to refresh content on an ongoing basis.
The power of the PC offers this exciting new opportunity for enhanced children's education and entertainment. Bookmark and revisit this site often for news and updates!
